Air curtains for offices

Installing air curtains on office entrances improves a building’s thermal efficiency, enhances the internal environment, improves staff comfort and helps keep pests, dust and fumes out of reception areas.

Office doorways are in frequent use. Open doorways allow cold air to enter during the winter and air-conditioned air to escape during the summer. This will increase energy bills for heating and cooling systems, as well as potentially making a reception area uncomfortable for staff and visitors.

Air curtains serve as efficient thermal barriers for both sliding, hinged and revolving doors. While revolving doors can reduce heat loss, they often bring in cold air. Installing an air curtain on ab office’s revolving door will prevents this issue.

Alongside saving money on energy, an enhanced reception environment will create a warm welcome for visitors and staff. This can result in a healthier and safer working environment, thus enhancing staff productivity.

As well as being a thermal barrier, an office air curtain acts as a physical barrier for dust, fumes and outdoor pollutants, further enhancing indoor air quality. Flying insects are prevented from entering and rodents are also discouraged from crossing the threshold.

  • Most modern air curtains are quiet, though noise varies by model, fan speed and installation height. High-velocity industrial units tend to be louder as the fans are operating at a much greater velocity. An air curtain for an office doorway should not be excessively noisy as the heights involved are not significant. Our expert advisors will be able to provide detailed information on noisy levels for your chosen model.

  • Office reception areas are often highly attractive areas, with great focus on aesthetic design and architecture. It is important office air curtains blend in to any existing design as much as possible, across both colour and mounting option. Air curtains can be supplied in any RAL colour to match and interior and mounting options include fully integrated models in bulk heads, ceilings or walls.

An air curtain for an office must cover the complete width of the doorway and have enough fan power to create a seal. Advice on sizing can be supplied by JS Air Curtains expert advisors.

  • This will depend on whether heaters are incorporated in the air curtain. Unheated air curtains will just move ambient air. Heated air curtains will incorporate either electric, hot water heat exchangers or heat pump coils. Heated air curtains are always recommended for office applications to enhance internal comfort.

  • Most air curtains are relatively easy to maintain and do not require frequent maintenance or replacement parts. Depending on the model, filters may need to either be replaced or cleaned periodically and motors and electrical connections checked. JS Air Curtains can provide advice on maintenance as well as planned maintenance agreements to cover this requirement.

Property Services Manager

“We recognised the need to install an air curtain following complaints of the reception being draughty due to cold air entering the building through the external doors. The aesthetic design of the air curtain was important as it would be highly visible above our busy main entrance. As the building is electrically heated, we also needed to ensure that the installed product would not compromise its energy efficiency performance.”

“JS Air Curtains has provided the ideal air curtain in the Rotowind G1500E, which was designed specifically for use with revolving doors. Working closely with the JS project management department, our design team subsequently fabricated bespoke plenum covers, matching the structure of the four entrance doors, to camouflage the Rotowind units.”

“After a major refurbishment of this part of the building, the reception area was suffering from cold air being sucked in through the main doors. We needed an air curtain that was independently mounted, as it could not be fixed to the fascia or ceiling of the reception. Since the air curtain from JS has been installed the cold air problem has been solved.”
